NEXTDC is pleased to announce that its S1 Sydney data centre has been certified as a NABERS 5-star rated data centre infrastructure facility for energy efficiency, further demonstrating its commitment to global leadership in energy efficiency and sustainability.
S1 Sydney is the only data centre facility in New South Wales and only the second in Australia to achieve a NABERS 5-star rating for energy efficiency. The first was NEXTDC’s M1 facility in Melbourne. NEXTDC’s continued discipline of independent certifications through the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) provides evidence that the company has once again, achieved the highest level of energy efficiency in the data centre industry.
NEXTDC’s Chief of Engineering & Design, Jeff Van Zetten said, “As an organisation we continue to push the boundaries and set new global benchmarks in data centre designs that will deliver the highest possible level of sustainability for our customers and our environment. We are responsible for building the critical infrastructure for the digital era that will support our future generations. It is a responsibility we take very seriously”.
NABERS is a national rating system that measures the all-year environmental performance of Australian buildings. NABERS enables organisations to benchmark the environmental performance of their buildings, measuring their energy efficiency, greenhouse gas intensity and the overall impact on the environment.
NEXTDC’s Chief Operating Officer, Simon Cooper said “I could not be prouder of what our team has achieved. The addition of our second NABERS 5-star rated data centre confirms that we are operating at independently certified 5-star levels of energy efficiency. For environmentally conscious organisations that are looking to optimise the secure running of their critical infrastructure in an ethical and responsible manner, this is a great reason why their IT workloads should be colocated in a NEXTDC data centre.”
Having a long-term vision and dedication to energy efficient design, coupled with the rigorous day to day commitment in performing disciplined onsite real-time monitoring and tuning, plays an integral role in achieving the NABERS 5-star standard.
Ensuring S1’s energy saving design elements, such as the innovative use of indirect economy cycle free cooling and direct free-air, are running optimally and continuing to maintain exceptional indoor air quality for the critical IT infrastructure was crucial in attaining this unparalleled benchmark.
